Search Engines understand that tweets are unique and real. It is very difficult to buy a large number of tweets. Sure you can "buy" a few but unless the content is real people won't really forward it to their friends. There is the bonus and limit of all social media.
People generally won't forward things they don't know about or believe in unless the source is trusted. Let's face it, no one wants to be embarrassed forwarding a tweet for a coupon that is ten cents off a pickle with the purchase of a 6 foot sandwich. Nor are they going to bother forwarding, the line at Jim's Sandwiches is short.
If Jim makes a great sandwich and puts up a mobile coupon that anyone can click on their phone and stop in for lunch, now you have a program that will get "re-tweets". The initial coupon could be a one day only and cause a spike in sales, the tweets will carry the benefit forward at a much smaller scale for a much longer time.
Just like the limitations of social media, the benefits have a compounding positive effect when used correctly and honestly. If Jim doesn't accept all those coupons, it will be a whole different ball game.
